Wow... Water bill

We got our first water bill a few days ago: $103.41 for 69 days. 10% discount if paid before 02/26.

This is my first ever water bill, so I didn't bother to really look at it. And then today, I did take a closer look:

Rate Information:
Water $4.06 per 100 CF
Sewer $7.43 per 100 CF

We used 900 CF, or 6732 gallons. This seems like a lo-oot of money. So I look around and find out what other Massachusetts cities are charging for water/sewer:
Rate for Shrewsbury, MA:
Min. charge $ 16.50/qtr. (5,000 gallons)
5,001 to 25,000 gallons $ 2.85/1000 gallons

At that rate, we would have paid:
16.50 + 4.94 = $21.44

Ok, so Shrewsbury is in no way the reference here. I just happen to find that particular information quickly. But this is still a huge difference.

Can I get feedback from you guys? What does your water bill look like?

    Hmmmm. Last bill says we used 4--I'm assuming that means 4,000 and it costs 12.00. Sewer cost was 13.00. I know that sewer depends some on water usage. This is for one month only. Hope that helps!

    It's very steep but it is not metered. I will have to analyze it. We pay close to $100/month flat for water and sewer, but also includes garbage so I have to look at the breakout...

    We have a big house but are conservative (plus a lot of water saving features) and the city is moving to meter watered. I am very relieved - i think it will be cheaper - they won't get to it until the kids get out of diapers so will help with less laundry and such. I look forward to having a little more control over the costs though.

    I pay $57.33 a month for sewer, and $16.99 for water, IF we stay under the alloted amount. If not, it gets really expensive! If we go over the alloted amount in the summer, by watering the lawn and trees, and garden, we get a penalty that is 40% higher through the month of December! We almost always go over the limit, because we have had drought conditions for several years, and I am not going to let my trees die.

    $47.07 a month - water and sewer - or $141.21 a quarter. That is the minimum we seem to pay and does not include anything else. Doesn't seem to matter what we do either. We seem to only pay two amounts per month - $47.07 or $57.07 - no in between. So bottom line is either $141.21 up to a maximum of $171.21 per quarter!

    Well.. thank you very much to everyone who responded. My bill doesn't seem to be way out there apparently. Although I'd like to live in Shrewsbury just for that Wink
    Could you guys tell me where you live? (If you don't mind... off course)
